Being Jewish, Santa Claus always passed over our house like the Angel of Death on Passover. Still does.

We always suspected that Chanukah was a third rate attempt to pacify us, so its celebration seemed kinda phony. Story goes that the candles lasted seven days longer than the Macabee family thought... Big deal!

It wasn't until this year that I had a sudden flash of insight as to the significance of the Festival of Lights.

I now believe that it is a celebration of the light that is inside each and every one of us. When we discover and celebrate that light, we are celebrating the Divine.

May we all dance in the light, eternally.

Popularity VS Quality

A writer friend recently asked why articles she cares most about are the least popular, while what she writes for money only, get lots of reads. The following is my opinionated response:

Often, there is little correlation between quality and popularity. Some of the greatest movies ever made did not make a profit in their initial release. Two that immediately come to mind are Citizen Kane, and The Wizard of Oz.

If your work is well made and passionate, chances are that people will eventually discover it. If it is hacked out just to make money, it probably will have a short shelf life.

POSSIBLE HYPOCISY ALERT:

While the above is true and comes from my heart, I have to let you all know that I have made little money from the works I cherish most. Many remain on the shelf. Some film and television works (pilots and proposals) were plagiarized and successful for others whom I could not fight. So I have little expertise on creating works that make money -- for myself.
